Summer Sailing 2017

The CBYC Summer Program features camps beginning in June and finishing at the end of August. We offer multiple classes to meet the needs of the participants ranging from beginner to advanced from the ages of 8-18 years. The emphasis is on teaching the basics and more advanced techniques of sailing through small classes and lots of fun. All Sailing Instructors are Certified US Sailing Instructors, as well as CPR / First Aid Certified. Program enrollment is limited, and all registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure to sign up for the session you want early to insure that you save a spot!

Who organizes and manages the Summer Sailing Program?

The program is organized and managed by the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club (CBYC).

Who can attend?

The program is open to any youth interested in learning how to sail that can pass the swim test given the first day of camp. Participants must be at least eight years of age.

Prerequisites

Students must be confident swimmers. A swim test will be given on the first day of camp. No exceptions will be made to this requirement. A completed participation waiver and medical form must be on file.

Parents are expected to inform their children that proper self discipline is required while in the program. All sailors and parents will sign a Code of Conduct. Violations of safety or other program rules may result in disciplinary action including suspension or dismissal from the program without a refund. CBYC is committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment for its participants.

Things to bring

The following must be brought to class everyday:

  • US Coast Guard approved life vest. The jacket type is recommended.
  • The life vest must be worn at all times on the dock or in the boat. NO VEST – NO SAILING!
  • Closed toe shoes. Sneakers are preferred.
  • Sun block (SPF 15 or greater) should be applied before class.
  • Sunglasses, hat and a swimsuit are recommended.
  • Water
  • Change of clothing, Towel, Insect repellent.
  • A backpack may be helpful.
  • Students are expected to attend ALL classes, be on time and have necessary items with them at all times.

Instructors

The CBYC coaching staff are highly qualified sailors and coaches. All coaches are US Sailing Certified level 1 or 2 instructors, First Aid / CPR certified, as well as Department of Boating and Waterways certified safe boaters.
